I have an external drive that I'm trying to format. The drive will only be
used for data or audio files. It will not be used for a boot drive.

I've read and re-read "Guide to Formatting a Hard Drive", yet still am
having problems:

Either when I type "format D:" at a dos prompt OR
right click on the drive and go into the Windows "format" routine

it does NOT let me continue. It is saying there is an error with the dos
command, or there is something running and it can't format with the windows
routine.

Bill Cohane helped me originally to get the drive to work several months
ago. Unfortunately, I don't have his note with the instructions: it was
slightly different in that it was a format and a fdisk.

if any can help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Marshall
