You may find that the drive is just a little over the 2.1gb limit that
some older BIOSs impose. I don't remember the exact limits to the drive
geometry, but try reducing the number of cylinders (so that the drive is
only 2.0 GB, for instance). I have had to do exactly that in what seems
to be a similar situation.

If the system supports LBA, you have certain limits: The first one was
2.1GB, the second one is 8.4GB. To get past a BIOS limit like that, you
need special software, or you can choose to address only the number of
cylinders that the BIOS will acept.
