  It appears that the unit is trying to serve you as a "caching only" DNS
server.  Perhaps this function is failing, or is being blocked somewhere.

  Few ISPs require that you point to *their* DNS servers -- you can usually
safely point to any DNS server in the world, and the more stable, the
better.  I routinely point one entry at our main work DNS server, and the
other at a hosting company I used to deal with.  Odds that both will change
or crash at the same time are very slim....
