I don't know if I've read your post right or not, but it sounds as though
you need to copy the system files to the C: drive. (I'm guessing here that
we are talking about windows, if not, ignore the rest of this email!)
I think, (I'm sure someone out there will correct me if I'm wrong), that the
easiest way to do that is by:
Inserting the start up disk into the drive.
Start the machine
Choose '2' when prompted (start machine without cdrom)
At the A: prompt, type: sys C: (enter)

Shortly afterwards, you should get a message telling you the system files
have been transferred, or words to that effect.
It should then start normally when restarted.

I do apologise if I got the wrong end of the stick and this is not what you
want to do.

I have a computer which will boot with a DOS disk, but not without
(probably due to a ding-dong error I comitted while looking for format
on a disk.) I had already repartitioned the HD.

Do I need to reload DOS, or what? And how do I do that, or whatever needs
to be done?

When you finish laughing at me, please send answers. I'm obviously
willing to experiment, as this is a learning experience for me.

Thanks much,
Karen Smith
