What Operating System are you using? If it is Windows XP, 512MB of RAM 
is a minimum for good operation. Also, if you are using onboard video, 
you might consider installing a good (not necessarily "best") video card 
to stop the use of motherboard RAM for video.

You may find that the price of 512MB of RAM is less or only slightly 
more than 256MB, in which case, you can add 512 to the existing 256. 
Although there are lots of retailers, www.tigerdirect.com normally has 
RAM on sale with rebates. They stand behind the rebates and I've never 
had a problem with them.

Gigabyte makes relatively good motherboards.I don't think that is an 
issue in your case.
