You can use interlnk.exe and intersrv.exe from dos 6.22
to connect.  I would boot both pc's to the same op/sys,
win95 if your using fat32 or msdos if you still use fat16.
A standard null modem cable will work.
I have used interlnk in dos7 but it may take a little patience.

As for commercial programs, PCAnywhere comes with
a custom parallel cable, but a standard serial null cable
will work as well, although much more slowly.
Since both your op/sys support netbui microsoft networking,
it would be cheaper to get 2 $15.00 network cards and a
cable than to invest in PCAnywhere unless you plan to use
the cool remote features that software provides.  By the way,
one copy of the software is all you need if you get the full
version, since there is a client piece you can buy more cheaply
if you intend to connect to a host that has PCAnywhere already
installed.
