the modem's manufacturer should offer a "latest firmware revision"

upgraded functionality may not involve replacing hardware, and

(2) It's much easier for a "Flash ROM" to become corrupt than a
"real" EEPROM.

  I'm judging that it's more likely that the message has mistakenly
called the Flash ROM an EEPROM than that the modem actually uses an
EEPROM *and* it has become corrupted.

  The modem's manufacturer is about the only one who can really help.


  [It's a bit late to advise against buying a WinModem in the first
place....]
