  Some Defrag programs /SpeedDisk from NU8.0/ won't run if the disk
has any errors in logical structure (lost sectors, bad file records,
etc.), which ScanDisk removes; but not all DeFrags are that smart.
  It's VITAL that you run Scandisk prior to defragmentation. If you
don't defrag often, and have valuable data,
backup may be a good idea as well.
