CD-rom trouble

I just installed a new HP CD-Writer and changed it to the master and changed the existing CD-rom to be the slave and now the PC doesn't recognize either CD drive.  I am also getting an error reading stating that the Advanced Power Management support driver is installed, but it has a problem.  I have searched Windows Update for a newer driver but I am prompted to accept the existing driver.  Any ideas?
