Yes, you will need to change the jumper if you want the full size of the
harddisk, but only change the jumper won't help to resize the partition. The
2G partition is already there, you can't change it until you delete it and
recreate new partition. Software like Partition Magic won't help either,
since the 2G is set 100% of the disk. I don't know any software which can
help you, unless you know how to hack harddisk partition table and boot
sector. Backup seems the only solution, I know you don't like to "destroy"
and start over, but the truth is you don't have much choice here. I hope
someone else knows how to do it without "destroy".
