   I don't think your USB port has croaked...IMO it's some Windows
corruption probably caused when you were repartitioning. A backup of data,
reformat, and reinstall of Windows should restore the proper USB drivers.
Having partitions should help you back up your data...move all your saved
stuff to a D or E drive and then format C from a boot floppy. Then reinstall
ME.

   I have fought this before on two machines and found a format and
reinstall was the quickest solution for me.
