Just as a thought, one thing I have found that helps slow AMD systems is
to adjust the Virtual Cache on the system, often this can speed up a
computer 50% or more...   believe it or  not.

You will need to use SYSEDIT that is found in Windows9x for this adjustment:

START / RUN / type: sysedit  [press enter]

Now, go to the SYSTEM.INI file, scroll down to the heading:   [vcache]

If you have nothing in this group, add these lines:

[vcache]
MinFileCache=1024
MaxFileCache=8192

Save and close SYSEDIT.

Now restart you computer and see if this makes any difference.
