  This STRONGLY suggests that the issue is with this system, not the printer
or cable.

1.  Is the parallel port configured the same in the BIOS on this system as
on the ones that work?

2.  Are you using the same OS and driver version on this system?

3.  Is the printer daisy-chained through another parallel device, such as a
scanner?
