Thanks in advance, you guys and gals always come through>

I have a standard Gateway P5-166, that is giving me trouble. The machine when from not starting once in a while (no fan noice or anything) to not starting at all. I have changed the power supply, it started once and now is dead again.
My questions are –
1) Isn’t the switch just a open/closed switch?
2) Will shorting across the 2 connectors to the switch result in an “on” position.
3) How does the signal get back to the power supply.
4) How can you make the power supply be always on?

Thanks much
David S
