I installed a Maxtor 5400 rpm 300GB hdd into a P4-2.8hz system. When I
brought it up and went to computer management to create one large partition I found
that the system only recognized 130GB for the 300GB drive. Anyone have any
ideas what I need to do to get the whole 300GB recognized? The system is built
around an Intel D865GBFL motherboard. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi,
It sounds like you are running into the limits of the IDE controller.
Unless they are nearly brand new, most IDE controllers have a limit of 137GB. The
newest ones use 48 bit addressing to allow larger drives. On some motherboards,
you can flash the BIOS to a newer version to allow >137GB drives to be used.
If not, then you'll need to get an add-in IDE card that supports drives over
137GB. (I just went through this with a 250GB Western Digital drive in my
system...I had to get a Promise IDE card to use the full capacity of the drive).

Peter Hogan
