I am interested in any input you get to your question. I have an Enpower
laptop that has gotten to the point where it only operates off AC when the
connector plug is held exactly right in the laptop's connector port. I have
been told by tech support that the external power connector port needs to be
replaced but that it is directly attached to  the motherboard and they would
not replace or repair it separately even though they said it could be done.
The repair cost estimate for installing a new motherboard is $450 (not worth
it for a 3 year old laptop). I just backed up its hard drive onto my desktop
in preparation for opening the laptop up to see if I could repair it with
some solder or maybe even direct wire the power cord to the laptop.

Using a Compaq Presario 1200 Laptop, the back power connector port came
loose and is floating inside the area where it was connected. I am good with
desktop systems but not so much laptops. How do I repair this connector port
and whats the best way to get the back opened up. I felt resistance and
couldn't open it all the way.
