I have a Dell 4600 with Windows XP/SP2, 1gb ram, 2.3mhz processor, 80gb hard drive. Recently I’ve been getting a message at startup that c: disk access denied.  When I tried to reinstall SP2 or do a Restore it cancels the action with the same comment: disk access denied. I did a check disk to run at boot up and I get the same message: Direct access denied.

Any suggestions?
