I use exactly the same method, Tom. (I use XP SP2) Although, I have several of these and have found that very short names take up less space. I have one "F" that brings up shortcuts to my top level folders in My Documents, as well as a few folders/files I use a lot (I don't use the actual folders, but special folders that contain all the shortcuts I want there.). One "S" that contains shortcuts to sites I use frequently, etc.
David, if the taskbar is UNlocked, then each "toolbar" on the taskbar has dotted handles on each that you can move to rearrange their order. When the taskbar is locked, the dotted "handles" disappear. You have to right-click the taskbar and choose "toolbars" and then check an existing toolbar or select "new" toolbar and add one (folder of shortcuts). You can choose to lock/unlock the taskbar from the same right-click on it.

Have you tried going to the directory itself (C:\Windows\System32\servives.msc), right clicking on it, then choose "Send To" and then send it to the desktop as a shortcut? The other options are, you can pin it to the 'Start Menu' or the 'Taskbar'. I keep all of my shortcuts for things I use in a folder on my desktop, created a new toolbar for it, and that way I can just click on that toolbar item and all of the shortcuts come up as a list like in the start menu. This helps keep my desktop from being cluttered.

It's not Brad, it's me who tries to drag the Services iconto the Win7
desktop and fails.
I suspect the key phrase here is "change to icon view". I've had Win7
for almost two weeks, and I don't think I know how to do that yet.
