The single beep of a working computer as it
boots up seems to be universal. In building
a new computer recently with an Asus board
I learnt that continuous beeping indicated bad
RAM at least with Asus boards.

I am trying to help a friend get her computer
working again. The mb (proprietary EMachines
with no manual) seems to be intermittingly
failing. The power supply is ok. But sometimes
there is no beep and the monitor does not
show any display even the BIOS. When detached
from mb, the monitor displays a Disconnected
message so the monitor is ok. The video port is
bundled in the mb. I am writing to ask if no
beep indicates a bad mb generally.

Thanks in advance for your help.
