I am planning to do an OS re-install on a laptop
(to clear out the cobwebs, so to speak).  It seems
that this would be a natural time to upgrade the
hard drive.

I recently saw an article that claimed the upgrade
can give you increased performance, as well as
just a bigger disk.  See the following link:

The theory is that the new drive can be faster,
as well as bigger, and seems to make sense
in principle.

Will this work in practice?  Has anybody done this,
and seen the results?

The laptop in question is a 300 Mhz IBM 600E, with a
6 Gb hard drive running nt4.  Would anybody know
of specific replacement drives for the 600E that would
offer increased performance?
