Thank you very much to everyone who racked their brains in an effort to help
me with my problem.
I haven't attempted any of the suggestions as yet, but will do so as soon as
I get the time.
Coincidentally, I was halfway through building my son a newer, faster
computer(this time with no openings at the front), I was just waiting for
the hdd to arrive through the post, which it did today.
I have now finished the new computer, and I am using it at the moment to
write this email. My son won't know it's finished until the morning, so that
should cheer him up!
Even so, I will attempt to repair the old one, as I know of someone who
would be grateful for it if I can ever make it work again.
