I have a friend with a PC I built for him a couple of years back -Specs: AMD
K6 -233, PCChips TXpro II motherboard, ATI PC Expression (Rage 2C) PCI
video, 32 MB RAM, 1.6 GB Connor HD, Win 95 (1st edition with updates & IE
5.0 installed). My friend called yesterday and said the PC wouldn't turn on,
I had him bring it by. The PC appeared to powerup, but didn't post. I
removed and reseated the CPU (which felt warm), turned on the PC and viola
it was working. I let it run for about an hour, running various programs,
etc, without incident. He took it home, plugged it in and turned it on.
The PC posted ---got to the message "checking NVram" and it hung up there.
He powered down and turned it back on, and we seem to be back at the
beginning (no post, - though the power light is on, as well as the CD power
light). Both the CPU fan and the PS fan were working properly when he
brought it over, and he says they both are still working. I'm looking for
any suggestions as to what the problem could be. Am I dealing with a
failing CPU or mobo? My first thought was the Power Supply, but it seems to
be providing power, just not booting. I don't have any Socket 7 Mobos or
chips to try in the case to see if replacing those would resolve the
problem, so I'm hoping one of the experts out their would have another
suggestion. Thanks for your help...
