Hi:

1) check that the agp card is fully seated.

2) yes, you can pull the agp and put a PCI card in.  You do not need to go
to the Bios for that.

3) try clearing the bios with the yellow jumper on the board and then
restarting. It is a very common thing that needs to be done with Epox boards.

4) My experience with Epox, tells me the board has gone south on your
friend. If you get no   display with a pci card, replace the board.
