A couple of issues come to mind with this post:

1) The Paperport Vx scanner is built for Macintosh/Apple computers
     and if that is the system you are using this whole question is
     OFF TOPIC.

2) If in fact you have attached the VX scanner to a PC/IBM based
    system, this scanner uses a SCSI card and not a LPT/parallel
    port.   In other words the scanner's card is not compatible with
    your printer port.

I believe we need a little clairification on this question.  Please tell
us what Operating System you are using and have you varified in
your user manual for the scanner if it is indeed a parallel port attached
scanner?   We need a bit more information to in order to assist you.
