Is the LED that shows the cable connection to the Internet lit up? If so, you have a problem on your side of the cable modem.  Is the CAT5 cable loose at either end (modem or NIC)?  Try a new CAT5 cable. Maybe your NIC is crashing. Try a new NIC, both this and the cable are cheap. I don't know how to test the cable modem connector.  Hopefully someone on the list will know how to do that.
