The final issue of Boot (changing the name to Maximum PC next month, September)
has an article regarding fake PIIs, basically they are PII 233s or 266s
remarked as 300s.  If you got a really great deal on the chip this might be the
reason.  I would recommend returning it if possible.

The article is on Page 18 of the July/August 98 issue and contains more
information.
