Hi.
A friend has brought me a P166 which gives a lot of problems. It is the
typical PC sold in Spain (in fact, most PC's sold here are so), since after
opening it, I saw the following:
-The mobo is the one known as the "cheap $69 Houston mobo".
-The mobo has no cache (although can be added with cache on a card). Well,
at least it is not "fake" cache, but much slowness for little savings and
much ignorance.
-The Pentium is clearly fake (surely a P150). In fact, the ceramic is more
reduced than others I've seen, and unequally (2.76 to 2.77 mm; original is
2.80): you can see it is thinner in some areas than in others. IMPP mark on
beneath.
-The memory is garbage. The chips are CW416804-6 (unknown manufacturer).
They have a label "made in Taiwan". It should be known that there are only
10-12 reliable memory chip manufacturers.
-The disk is bigfoot type (5.25"). It should not cause problems, but is very
slow.
-The CD is Cyber, which has a high failure rate.

As seen, it only misses the fake cache soldered on mobo. This is what is the
typical clone sold in Spain; I'm courious about what is found in the US and
other countries.

What I will do is put good memory, and if that does not work, I'll
aditionally reduce processor speed to 2.5x60=150.
