Bob Wright and list members;

I am trying to reinstall a known good winmodem in a win98 machine. It has
the Rockwell Rs56-pci chipset. It installs the pci modem emulator with irq
5 and the modem installs fine without any conflicts. However when I try to
test the modem under control panel modem diagnostics it reports back the
either the modem is not plugged in or it has no IRQ. Shows 0 as the irq.
This modem was PNP detected by the operating system, when the drivers
where installed.

What could be wrong here and is it normal for a winmodem not to take one
of the comm ports when it installs. I have comm1,2,3 with no modem on
them. The modem shows up under modems but not under any comm port, and
should be using irq5. How can I get
the modem to use irq 5? Or if that is not the problem what is?

Thanks; John zyla
