Hi Stephen,

Let's start with a solution, before we start clarifying a couple of
misconceptions, OK?
Try this:
Left click Start;
Left click Settings;
Left click Control Panel;
Left click Performance;
Left click Virtual Memory;
Left click Let me specify my own virtual memory settings;
Left click Minimum;
Delete whatever number is in the box and type in 100
Left click Maximum
Delete whatever number is in the box and type in 100
Left click OK;
Left click File System;
Where it says Read Ahead Optimization, move (left-click on and drag)
the pointer to Full;
Left click OK;
Left click OK again;
Hold down Alt, tap Spacebar, let go and tap C,
Left click start;
Left click Shut Down;
Left click Shutdown the Computer?;
Left click Yes;
When you get Safe to turn off message, turn off power, leave off for 10
seconds;
Restart computer;
Left click start;
Left click Shut Down;
Left click Restart the Computer?;
Left click Yes;

When the computer comes back up fully to Win95 Desktop, get rid of
System Monitor (turn it off). It's a waste of memory resources.

Now for the misconceptions:
'system resources' and 'free memory' are not the same thing!

Get yourself a copy of WinTune95, and run it right after a 'clean-boot'
to Win95 (hold down both Shift keys as soon as the hourglass appears,
and keep them down until the harddisk activity LED is out for at least a
count of 5). Examine all its details when it finishes running.
***Be careful to keep your hands away from the mouse and keyboard once
you click Start WinTune95***
The slightest 'jiggle' will throw the results off.

Forget that nonsense about re-seating your memory SIMMs. If on BIOS
startup it is reading 32MB RAM total (640KB conventional [low] memory
plus extended memory) the SIMMs *are* properly seated.

You may have installed some software or hardware recently which are real
memory hogs, plus remember, Win95 memory manager does not automatically
release all the memory it may have allocated to a particular application
at the moment you close such application. If you are using graphics
intense apps, like Corel, Adobe Photoshop, etc., or any CAD/CAM apps,
or certain games, it is best to re-boot after closing those particular
apps to free up the memory.

Hope this helps,

My computer's memory seems to be hiding somewhere... 32M of EDO memory
(two banks of 16M) and is running WIN95B.... in stripped down condition
System
Monitor shows free memory that fluctuates between 175K and 4.5M though
System
Properties shows resources as being 87% to 92% free...
