I support this view completely. May I just add my 2 cents though. Backup all
your data before starting. I've done this a few times and trust me, it is
easy to mess up the install.

although feel free to do so if you are not comfortable using FDisk.
Additionally, most flavors of Linux will come with a disk partitioning tool
to help you with the installation.
