Since I hear  "dings", "clunks", and "clanks" through external speakers,
I surmise internal speaker input has been routed through software to
external speakers, and that internal speaker is inactive. Have Windows
Sound System (WSS) Device installed. The only problem with this is that I
do not always have the external speakers on.
