problem with DVD drive

Our Pioneer A103 in our XP machine no longer 'sees' the contents of the
DVD or CD when put in the drive.

The properties shows it as working properly and the little icon of a disk
shows(by the cursor) as the disk is loading..but nothing ever plays or
shows up in explorer for that drive.

Does anyone have an idea what may have gone wrong and what I can do?
