Hi Mike

You need to create a partition on your new drive before Win98
will assign it a drive letter.

I would suggest that you boot from a Win98 Startup diskette
and run FDISK. Use this to create a partition on your new hard
drive. You probably want to answer YES when FDISK asks you if
you want to enable support for large disks and then create one
"primary partition" on your new drive equal in size to the entire
drive. You'll have to reboot after running FDISK.

You then have to FORMAT the new partition. (Type "FORMAT D:" if
D is the new drive's letter.) Be warned that your CDROM drive's
letter will get bumped up the alphabet.

You can also run FDISK from within Win98 by typing this command
into the Run box. (Click the Start button and then click Run.)
You do need to reboot after this before Win98 will assign the
drive letter. You can FORMAT your new drive from within Win98
either by using the Run menu or by right clicking on the drive
in My Computer. If you do this, don't forget to reboot before
using the drive. (I do prefer to use a Startup diskette when
FDISKing and FORMATing a new drive. You can create a Startup
diskette from Control Panel|Add/Remove programs|Startup Disk.)

Regards,
Bill
