In a recent post, Paul Anderson wrote in with the following problem:

"I'm building a new system and I'm having trouble with it. Every half-hour
or so it will lock up and I will have to turn it off at the power switch in
the back. Well if I go to turn it back on, it won't turn back on. I have to
leave it off for about fifteen minutes and then it will turn on."

I too, had similar problems with a machine I built a while back. Eventually,
it wouldn't run at all. In my case, it turned out to be the way I'd mounted
the motherboard. The motherboard was apparently unhappy that I used several
metal stand-offs. When I remounted it using only 1 metal stand-off and the
rest plastic, these symptoms went away, and the computer has run as sweetly
as any factory-built system ever since. Go figure.
