Hello,

My Toshiba Tecra M2 notebook(Win XP pro, SP3) has lost its audio playback function, the sound through its speaker and earphones got weaker and then vanished; the CD playback function has also failed, when asked to play a CD, Windows Media player puts on a stored recording that came with it, instead.
However, the recording function works; I can see the wave form in an Audacity file when the microphone is plugged in; but this can't be played back.

Having searched through Device Manager and the various sound controls and finding nothing amiss (all devices working, all drivers installed), nor any solution in the troubleshooters, I am stuck and would appreciate any insight into what might be the matter and how best to repair it.

Thanks,

Ron Smith
