If you have Win 98 or higher you can go to start/run, type msconfig in the command line, then click OK or hit your enter key. Go to the startup tab on the dialog box. You can then uncheck the boxes of the programs you don't want to run at startup. Click apply, and OK then you'll get a message that you need to restart for the changes to take effect. You can restart or you can wait until the next time you fire up. On restart you should see fewer little icons in your system tray.
