Hi,

I've been using Windows 2000 Professional for about 5 months and had no major problems till now. Windows takes a very long time to start up. It stalls at the graphical "Starting Windows" screen when the progress bar gets to about 50%. On further investigation in the event log there are four identical error entries with every boot as follows...

Event Type: Error
Event Source: atapi
Event Category: None

I had installed a new Fujitsu 10.2 GB hard disk drive just prior to installing the operating system. Is this an indication that the hard disk is failing or is it an operating system problem? Any suggestions for checking the hard disk integrity would be much appreciated. I've a lot of work on this machine and yes it is backed up, but I'd rather not go through the hassle of finding the drive has failed if I can prove to the vendor that it has some serious issues.

Many thanks in advance.
Regards Roger Griffiths
