Well, here goes...

I have a WD 2540 (a.k.a. 540Meg) harddrive I've used on the bench for years. It came out of an old 486 and has always worked flawless. Never a problem, never a bad sector, and always virus free.

I would just move it from system-to-system as a simple "test" drive. It had Win95B on it as well as every Win95 driver known to mortal man. In most cases, you just plug it up, fire it up, it would find the hardware and you would be up and running...

Well, I decided to not let well enough alone. Being the last thing I have that uses Win95, I felt it time to move it up to Win98SE. So I started with a Fdisk if the unit, but when I start to format the drive it just sits a "0" for a moment and then termanates the format!

Other than showing the harddrive i
s not formatted, the test software I currently have can not find a problem with it. It shows up correctly in BIOS on four differant machines but with the same results. I have seen this before, but for the life of me I can not remember what the answer was...

   Looking for ideas,
   Michael
