Glenn,

Possible solution:
Check, if you have installed, Office XP or maybe 2003, the "indexing"
feature. In XP(2002) it is under  File|Search|(Sidebar)Search Options.
Uncheck the Indexing function. This is a very common occurrence with the
Office suite. Disabling the indexing will not adversely affect the programs.
