    Stephen;
I worked on a year old Dell recently.
it had a Dell resource cd or something similar
under drivers there was a index of the files in that directory.
you may need to go to www.dell.com and look up your hardware by serial #.
they also should have your drivers on the website.

You can take off the cover if you're comfortable with that, and look at the
video card and
 see what chipset it has.
Or watch when the computer first boots in dos the first thing on the screen
should
be what display hardware is installed.
The drivers are often "buried" deep on the cd. The one I worked on had a
file
called "install.bat" in the folder for the soundcard I was trying to
install.
That dos batch file pointed to the winnt folder where the actual .inf file
was located.
Probably the driver off the Dell site will be easiest to find.

It's always a good idea before reformatting to write down or print the
hardware list
in device manager.
