If at this point you are going to start completely over with the disk, after
backing up the your data, you may want to hunt up the utilities provided by
the manufacturer of that hard drive.  As a general rule when working with a
used drive, I think it is a good idea to make use of the diagnostic and the
"write zero" utilities.  The thorough disk scan and diagnostics will give
you some re-assurance that the drive is in good shape, and the write zeros
utility will return it to a condition similar to a newly bought drive.
