I am having *major* problems with Win XP. I am slowly upgrading the
computers at my work from win 98. I have encountered some interesting
problems that I would appreciate some feedback on.

My most immediate problem is with how XP manages printers connected to a
domain. At work, all the users connect to a win NT 4.0 domain so that
they can have access to shared drives. In order to install the office
printer for windows 98, I would simply browse to the shared printer on the
network, select it, then install drivers on the local computer. I
expected Win XP to be similar... and it was, so I thought. I browsed to
the printer, and Win XP configured itself to use it.

Here is where the problem lies. Win98 would install a *connection* to the
printer. I am not sure what WinXP is doing, but somehow, it seems to
*take over* the printer on the server! When I tell XP to reinstall
drivers, it SOMEHOW INSTALLS DRIVERS ONTO THE SERVER! I thought this
happened because I was logged in as Administrator, but now I found out
the hard way: even on a user account on the domain, if I tell WinXP to
rename the printer, It is RENAMED ON THE SERVER! Needless to say, that is
very, very bad!

I need to fix this, thank you for any information.
