oh yes i didn't mention. Results may be similar to cooking in a skin
(not easy to achieve well done).

Such pits should be traceable in the fossil record (like the aetoli
footprints). Yet i haven't seen Lucy-like pits in the literature.
What leaves no archeological traces is:

the easiest cooking of all:
just lay some roots into a burning fire or hot ashes
(we probably all have done this with potatoes).
