Dee, I can't presume to know of any 'consensus,' but it's the lower nutrient
density, and the higher glycemic index, as well as the likelihood that starchy
roots and tubers weren't much eaten by our early ancestors, that's responsible
for the proscription.  But those are recommendations only.
