Welcome Sheryl,

I have had Crohn's disease for 30+ years and this WOE (way of eating) is the
best thing that has ever happened to it and me. I try to keep things simple.
99% of my diet is meat (mostly beef and pork with some fish), veggies
(including tubers like sweet potatoes), and fruit. I used to eat some nuts
but the omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio in nut is not very good so I rarely eat
them now. The only dairy I eat is heavy cream in my coffee and butter. I eat
tomatoes too and they don't seem to bother my Crohn's. I don't eat any other
nightshade family plants except on rare occasions. I do average 100g or so
of carbs a day but since I weigh 125 lbs soaking wet they are not problem
from a weight standpoint. The biggest thing for me and I believe most people
with Crohn's is not to eat starches/complex sugars.

Mark

Hi Richard,

What does "SAD" stand for?

<<foods that come from the "New World", introduced from the time of
Columbus.
Many of us have not had very long to genetically adapt. Foods often in the
Nightshade family, have alkaloids in them that are sometimes hard to handle.
They cause me real problems and others too.>>

But nightshade family plants didn't just evolve, did they? I thought
tomatoes were a very long tradition in Italy and around the Mediterranian.
I
have never had any problems with tomatoes or peppers. Actually, the only
food I've had an instantly bad reaction to when my IBD is acting up is
nuts--very bad. I've also noticed that things are better when I limit carbs
in general.
