Hi Kevin,
I, too, started on my Paleo diet journey through watching my dogs' health
change dramatically with the raw diet. I don't eat raw (except for sushi
and rare meat :) ), but I have taken the paleo principles and have improved
my health.

Do you have any particular health issues? To a doctor, I was healthy except
for acne, but this diet has provided me with not only a complete acne cure,
but increased energy, vigor, and mental well-being. I think many of the
mental problems of this Prozac nation is due to inappropriate eating. I,
too, succumbed to the call to the border and to the McD's drive through, at
I trudged through my day at about 50% of where I should have been.

Good luck--it can be overwhelming at first and you may "fall off the wagon"
a few times, but once you figure out how to make the diet work for you, it
is pretty easy to maintain long term (rather the opposite of other diets).
My #1 recommendation to you at this point is spend most of your time in the
meat and produce section of the grocery store, and use fresh herbs for
seasoning. You will be cutting out a huge percentage of items available at
the grocery store, but amazingly you may find yourself eating more variety.
A donut may look and taste far different from a wheat thin, but they are
from the same plant! Also, don't get freaked out by some of the more picky
and analytical posts from this list--I love reading them, but for now, keep
it simple at first and don't overanalyze, especially if you don't have any
major medical issues looming.
