At the level of the human metabolism of the subjects, this early 1980s
experiment recorded that
1.  all lost weight, an average of 8kg each
2.  the subjects were soon fed up with the coastal diet – the report was
that they wanted more carbs, not that the 80% protein was itself a
problem.  But we really dont know.
3.  to quote from the paper: <the major metabolic abnormalities of type II
diabetes were either greatly improved or completely normalized in this
group of Aborigines by relatively sort reversal of the urbanization
process.  At least three factors known to improve insulin sensitivity
(weight loss, low fat diet and increased physical activity) were operating
in this study and would have contributed to the metabolic changes
observed>.

What I would like to know was what the research team did with the
findings, what the subjects felt about their improved metabolism and
whether they chose to make any sustained changes to their lifestyle which
impacted positively upon their subsequent health.

To me it was very inconclusive.  The lessons you and I would draw from the
research do not appear to have been picked up in any systematic way in
subsequent research or public health interventions.
