Someone calculated that the big dinosaurs could not walk in our gravity. 
He then suggested that the earth was smaller in their time. We would 
need to know how much mass the solar wind and other sources  adds to the 
earth over time.

That's the steady state approach; catastrophic says that the earth grew 
suddenly, so all the really big critters died then.

This is fun.
