Hi,  I was on beta-blocker for a rapid heartbeat.   I took it for my
Graves Disease (thyroid disease) which causes rapid heartbeat.  It lowers
your blood pressure.  It is usually given to people with high blood
pressure.  Does your relative suffer from thyroid problems also?
