I hope everyone's Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has had a good Mum's Day
weekend! :-) Isn't it wonderful that our ancestors survived long enough to
procreate. --That's my genealogical gratitude for today. Hope it's yours,
too.

Now, I have some questions that I have been wondering about for some time.
Maybe someone or a few can help. For two years I have been supplementing
with Pure Encapsulations EPA/DHA. Specifically, I'm wondering whether the
ratios and the amount I'm taking are optimal--i.e., not enough or too much,
or as the little bear said, "Just right."

Each gel cap contains 1,000 mg of fish oil concentrate broken down as EPA
300 mg and DHA 200 mg. This is--what?--a 3:2 ratio or 60%:40%. I had been
taking two of these per day unil about a month ago when I doubled to four
(2/am & 2/pm).

Originally, I began taking these (in addition to a number of other supps)
for heart health/lipid profile reasons. As I've read some compelling
articles about beneficial effects on mood, I thought I would guinea pig/lab
rat myself and so boosted the daily dose. However, I wouldn't want to give
myself a hemorrhagic stroke or otherwise bleed to death with a minor cut. I
also take 800 iu's of Vit E/mixed tocopherols a day (and the EPA/DHA
contains 10 iu's per cap). A year ago I had a toenail removed and bled
like the proverbial stuck pig. At that time I was also taking St. John's
wort, which I have since discontinued but which is said to be a blood
thinner.

I seem to be able to find plenty of lit touting the virtues of EPA/DHA, but
can't seem to find anything that addresses a safe/optimal dosage range
within the therapeutic window for either for either heart or mood. Would
anyone know?

Thanks and best regards,
Theola
